The Pete Jones series was the very first thing my hyperborean ass had ever done on YouTube. The original intent and purpose for this channel lied entirely within sports games. Specifically, those made in the early 2000s.
Now back in them early days, I was absolutely obsessed with this era of sports games. The reason behind this obsession all comes down to one video, one video that I just stumbled upon one day on YouTube. That video being SOFTDRINKTV's "The Sad Decline of the Madden NFL Series".
Now I had always been a huge NASCAR fan, probably more than any other sport out there. And when it came to its gaming output, the common consensus reached with it was how it peaked in the early 2000s with EA Sports NASCAR games. With the exclusivity license handed to them would eventually erode away at the series' quality. But this was the first time I heard word of EA Sports' across the board drop off for all of their franchises. And in almost all cases, these series peaked in the one specific era: the early 2000s.
From this, I chose to make my YouTube channel entirely dedicated to this obsession. And I knew exactly how I was gonna start it. Create a driver in my favorite NASCAR game and create an entire career playthrough. And god motherfucking damn, bitch that is exactly what I did. These are the videos of my life, the shit that I grinded my shit out to get my name out there. And man, granted I was 13 when making these, but this shit does not hold up well at all.
This shit has all the makings of some shit ass early teenage 26 views in 14 years type of video. I recorded this shit on the Xbox Game Bar, mic recorded with my webcam propped up close to my face, and edited on my middle school's paid for subscription to WeVideo. I mean there's a slight uptick in the last couple episodes where I added in intro/outro music as well as full endcards, but nah this shit still completely forgettable. And by the time production started on the 12th episode, the series had just lost all of its fun.
I was mercilessly raping the shit out of the rest of the pack, no condom. Didn't matter where, didn't matter who, there was absolutely nobody who could even come close to competition with Pete Jones. And I let everybody know in one final Pete Jones video. While I did eventually bring Pete Jones back for a few livestreams in Nascar Thunder 2004, that was essentially it for any and all Nascar gaming on this channel.
Though I gotta say looking back on it, there is a slight charm in those undeveloped, amateur aspects I listed earlier. Production so awful it almost becomes humorous to watch out of the sheer rustic charm of it all. And even I myself can see that side to these videos.
